ShopSolver is a geometry calculator and shop reference tool.
While
CNC programmers and manual machinists alike will find ShopSolver
invaluable, anyone needing to solve tough shop math problems will find
it
easy and handy.
It is not intended as a
replacement for CAD/CAM software systems. But if you have a
basic
knowledge of what lines, circles and angles are then you're already 95%
up the ShopSolver learning curve. Goodbye trig!
For those
tough and
challenging math problems that arise every day in the shop, ShopSolver
is here to help. The geometry calculator can:
- Find the 3-dimensional intersection(s) of lines, circles,
planes, etc.
- Translate, rotate and scale calculated solutions.
- Determine the distance between a point and another point, line, circle or plane.
- Manipulate points via mirroring, rotation and scaling.
- Design and calculate the points in linear, circular and
parallelogram patterns.
- Interactively solve any triangle -- even those with 2
solutions.
- Calculate the rotation and tilt angles required to mill and
drill compound angles.
- Determine the distance across corners for any regular polygon with
up to 5000 sides.
- Calculate
the diameters of 3 gage pins (i.e. circles) needed to measure a hole;
find the diameter of a third pin given the other 2; and determine if
the 3 pins provide an accurate fit for measuring.
- And more!
ShopSolver provides 90+ geometric definitions. Types of
geometrics that can be defined and solved for include:
- Points
- Lines
- Circles
- Planes
- Cylinders
- Ellipses
- Spheres
- Hyperbolas
- Vectors
- Patterns
ShopSolver also displays metrics for geometric definitions such as XYZ
coordinates,
angles, radii, area, circumference, vector normal, and others.
Mathematical equations are also shown for most definitions. ShopSolver can even plot your definitions!
Reference tools that you use every day include:
- Countersink depths for any angle countersink, with and
without a flat, and drill point lengths; calculate height of ball to measure countersink diameter
- Bolt clearance hole and counterbore sizes/depths
- Tap drill sizes (imperial and metric), including nearest
drill sizes
- Drill charts (imperial and metric)
- Conversions such as SFM to RPM, inch to metric and
vice-versa, and others such as angles, area, length, weight/mass, etc.
- Imperial and metric thread
reference to find major, minor and pitch diameters; compound depth of
cut; best wire size and measurement over wires; and more.
Works
for standard and non-standard sized thread forms.
- More to come!
In
addition, ShopSolver's numeric input fields are all expression evaluators.
There's no need for a scientific calculator. Just
type your
math expression into a field, press TAB and instantly see the
solution. There's also on-line context-sensitive
help.
For all
of you APT fans:
Geometric
definitions are modeled and stored in the style of APT geometric
statements. There are 16 ways to define a point, 15 ways to
define a line, 15 ways to define a circle, etc., all based on the APT
standard (with some new, non-standard ones thrown in that you may find
helpful).
Statements are evaluated in real time -- no compiler needed.
ShopSolver can even export valid and syntactically correct
APT
definitions so you can paste them into your source file.
