This tool provides format and data conversions commonly used in a shop environment.

SFM to RPM

Converts surface feet per minute (SFM) to revolutions per minute (RPM) and vice-versa.  It also determines feedrates based on the calculated RPM.

To convert SFM to RPM:

1. Enter the Surface Footage per Minute in the SFM  field.
2. Enter the tool diameter (mill) or part diameter (lathe) in the Diameter  field and then tab to or click on any other field.
3. The calculated RPM is shown in the RPM  field.

To convert RPM to SFM:

1. Enter the Revolutions per Minute in the RPM  field.
2. Enter the tool diameter (mill) or part diameter (lathe) in the Diameter  field and then tab to or click on any other field.
3. The calculated surface footage is shown in the SFM  field.

To calculate feedrates:

1. Determine the tool's or part's RPM above.
2. Enter the distance to be traveled in 1 RPM in the Units/Rev  field and then tab to or click on any other field.  Units may be expressed in any valid unit length.
3. The calculated feedrate is shown in the Units/Minute  field.

Inch / MM

Converts imperial inches to millimeters and vice-versa.  Enter a distance into either the Inch  or MM  field.  The conversion will be calculated and shown in the companion field as you type.


Other Conversions

This section of the tool provides 10+ common conversions such as length, time, weight and volume.  To use this tool:

1. Select a conversion topic from the drop-down list.
2. Select specific conversion types in the From  and To  drop-down lists.
3. Enter a value in the From  entry field.  The To value will be calculated and shown in the To  field as you type.
